UNIQUE PIECE - HANDMADE IN INDONESIA

Ikat is a dyeing technique used to design patterns in textiles. The process must be repeated several times to eventually create a multicolored and special pattern.

The weaving is done by the female members of the village. A full sized, hand spun, Sumba cloth can take up to two years to complete. It is a time consuming process starting with the spinning of the yarn, made from local home grown cotton

The motifs in a cloth vary throughout the island and most Sumbanese can identify the weavers’ clan by the motif of their cloth. The symbols are mostly Marapu ancestral spirits expressed in birth, on-going life, death and reincarnation.

Each rug is a beautiful cultural art piece which is made with care.

Size: H246 (including ruffles) - W94 cm.
